Blogs

Everyone loves a blog and I have several -

Oregon Small Holders Alliance

I formed the Oregon Small Holders Alliance (OSHA), an informational website, in 2006. It's purpose originally was to post information about the National Animal ID System (NAIS), but has since expanded to cover other information on international trade, foreign animal disease epidemiology, disease containment strategies both in the USA and else where in the world, especially those used by our major trading partners. I also track agriculture and trade regulations, treaties, trade agreements, etc.

Do you have a horse in the back yard or a pet laying hen? Think that livestock regulations made in Paris France don't affect you? Think again.....

In January 2007 I formed the Oregon Small Holders Alliance NAIS Working Group (OSHA NAIS WG). The working group was formed to study implementation of the NAIS and it's effects on small scale livestock owners (small holders). The working group publishes a newsletter every 2 weeks and is currently compiling information on NAIS implementation by state, species, disease control/eradication program, producer type, etc.  The information will be released in a comprehensive report. The report will be released a chapter at a time as they are completed. Information on the report and articles from the newsletter are posted on the blog as they are available. You may also subscribe to the newsletter by emailing me and putting OSHA NAIS WG Newsletter - SUBSCRIBE in the subject of the email.

Not All Of My Friends Are Human

I've been working with animals, both exotic and domesticated, most of my life. Always, my main interest has been in basic animal behavior and how animals interact with us and how we interact with them. This blog is all about my adventures with animals and learning how better to communicate with them and how to build trust in order to create a dynamic and strong working relationship.

J Rigutto's Critter Blog

This is my original blog for animals. Due to a technical issue, I'm no longer able to post there, which is why I started Not All Of My Friends Are Human and The Frugal Farmer over on Blogger.com. I'm in the process of moving the different posts from the old Critter Blog to the new blogs, but until then, you can still read the Critter Blog.

The Frugal Farmer

In addition to everything else, on our little plot of heaven, we farm. We grow a lot of the food we eat, especially vegetables but also meat. This blog is about our farm in general and how we manage it, and make one part of the farm support another.  It's also about techniques that, while not for the larger holding, can make farming on a small scale economically viable, or at least not so expensive.
